While the spotlight shone on stars like Leonardo DiCaprio (J. Edgar) and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn), a host of other filmmakers from around the world enjoyed a little attention of their own recently at AFI Fest. Count Canadian actress and budding producer Kristin Kreuk among them.

Blink, a short directed by AFI grad Rick Rosenthal and one of the first films from Kreuk’s production company, Parvati Creative Inc., screened at the L.A. film fest. Parvati is a joint venture she started with friends Rose Bhura and Allison Mack, who has since left the company.

“The whole idea is that we want to produce film and television and we’re looking at reality-based or factual programming for now but we probably will phase out of it and go into scripted formats,” says Kreuk, our Summer 2005 TORO cover girl.

“I really want to challenge prejudice and areas where we don’t like to look. I like to shine light into areas that we generally don’t want to venture into and I love the exploration of those things.”

Summer05small.jpgIt’s a departure from her days as Lana Lang on Smallville. But the seasons spent on the popular sci-fi TV series gave her a good grounding on all aspects of production.

It appears that there is a new big screen, double team supreme developing as Smallville actress Kristin Kreuk and Lord Of The Rings star Billy Boyd are set to team up yet again. It will be the second time in about a year that these two have starred together in a movie.
Kristin and Billy filmed the movie, Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy, which will be released on April 17, 2012 in the UK, earlier this year. Now they have both signed up to star in the Armen Evrensel, sci-fi comedy movie Space Milkshake, which will begin filming early next year.
Space Milkshake centres around four space workers on a rundown orbital sanitation station, who run into a few problems when they salvage a strange device from a space ship wreckage. Director Armen Evrensel penned the screenplay for the movie, which will also star Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne. Space Milkshake is expected to be released late 2012 or early 2013.

Since Kristin Kreuk appeared in the comic book based TV show Smallville, it seems that it would be interesting to know, which comic book movies are her favourite. Kristin took the time to make a list of her favourite comic book movies, past, present and future.
Kreuk explained, “Ok, so there’s X-Men, then there’s the new Superman movie. Oh, you know what? It’s, of course it is, it’s the most recent Batman movie. I thought they did a really great job with that film and really explored some icky concepts of around the aspects of evil and how that happens.”

She added, “I thought that was really well done and I’m excited for the next one.” Kristin Kreuk can next be seen on the big screen, when she appears alongside Billy Boyd in Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy. Kristin and Billy are also due to appear alongside each other in Space Milkshake, which is currently in pre production.
